FAQ
Common questions.
I can’t hear anything. What should I check?
BeatGrid does not include sounds of its own: it plays the AUv3 instruments installed on your iPad. Tap a slot in the instrument panel at the bottom of the screen and load an instrument for that track (if the panel is hidden, bring it back with VIEW). Then open VOL and check the master volume and the volume of the track.
My instrument doesn’t appear in the list.
Tap a slot, then tap “Scan installed AUv3s” under the list. BeatGrid lists AUv3 instruments only: an app that does not provide an Audio Unit instrument will not appear.
A note is stuck. How do I stop it?
Tap PANIC, at the top right: it stops every sounding note. Then press Stop and Play again.
My MIDI keyboard doesn’t play anything.
Open SETTINGS and check that your keyboard is selected as the MIDI input. Then turn on MON on the track you want to play — your keyboard now plays that track — or arm REC to record.
What is the difference between GRID and CLIP?
They are two ways to record on the bass, synth and lead tracks. In GRID mode, notes snap to the step — 1/16, 1/8 or 1/4, chosen with QUANT — and you edit them in the piano roll. In CLIP mode, you record freely, without quantization, and every note is shown on a timeline.
Can tracks have different lengths?
Yes. Each track has its own loop length — 16, 32, 48 or 64 steps — set with the buttons at the right of the track toolbar. A one-bar beat can run under a two-bar bassline.
How do I chain patterns into a song?
Tick the patterns to include, under their letters (A to H), then turn CHAIN on: they play in order. Long-press a letter to set how many times that pattern repeats, from 1 to 8.
How do I set the volume of each track?
Open VOL: one fader per track, plus the master. Long-press a fader to assign it to a knob or fader of your MIDI controller (MIDI Learn).
How do I undo a mistake?
Use the two arrows in the track toolbar to undo and redo on the bass, synth and lead tracks. CLR clears the track.
Is my work saved?
Yes. Your patterns, settings and instrument sounds are saved automatically. At launch, if instruments were loaded in your last session, BeatGrid asks whether to restore them or start a new session. Use SAVE and LOAD to export and import a session as a file, sounds included.
Does BeatGrid run on iPhone?
No. BeatGrid is designed for iPad, in landscape.
