FAQ

Common questions.

The microphone isn’t detecting my notes. What should I do?

Make sure HarpBend has microphone access enabled in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. Play clearly and aim for a green level on the input meter — too quiet and detection becomes unreliable.

Which harmonica keys are supported?

HarpBend supports 22 diatonic harmonica keys. C, A and G are free; the 19 others come with the Keys Pack. Tap the key button (top left) to switch instantly. Chromatic mode follows the key you select, like the diatonic grid.

What’s included for free?

Real-time pitch detection, the full diatonic grid in C, A and G, Major and Natural Minor scales, Major and Minor chords, 3 chord progressions (12-Bar Blues, ii–V–I and “Fading Light”, with its scrolling melody), metronome with click, and the Simple bass pattern.

What do the packs add?

Scales Pack: 12 scales. Chords Pack: 19 additional chord voicings. Bass Patterns Pack: Rock, Pop, Shuffle and Walking jazz. Songs Pack: 9 blues & jazz standards + unlimited custom progressions. Chromatic Pack: Full 12-hole chromatic grid with slide positions. Keys Pack: the 19 other diatonic keys, 22 in total.

Can I buy everything at once?

Yes — the HarpBend Pro bundle includes all six packs at a reduced price ($6.99), saving ~53% vs buying separately.

How do I restore my purchases on a new device?

Tap any locked feature to open its paywall, then tap Restore purchases at the bottom. All previously purchased packs will be restored automatically using your Apple ID.

How do I create a custom chord progression?

Tap Grids (on iPhone, in the ⋯ menu) → My Progressions → New Progression. Set a name, tempo, and time signature, then add chords one by one.

The metronome or bass sound isn’t playing.

Turn the volume up, and check the metronome and bass volume in the app. Since version 1.4, sound also plays through Bluetooth headphones — update if you’re on an earlier version. HarpBend uses its own audio engine — make sure no other audio app is holding exclusive access to the microphone.

The app doesn’t detect bends correctly.

Bends require a consistent embouchure and sufficient air pressure. Make sure the input level meter shows a stable green signal. Detection works best in a quiet environment.

How do I read the grid?

Blow notes sit on the rows above the hole numbers, draw notes on the rows below. Bends extend outward: above the blow notes, below the draw notes. Colours follow the theme you choose, and the active cell lights up in real time as you play.
